Mark and Stephenie had both turned 60 by 2023. For the last 5 years they had lived in a large house they co-owned and lived in with Mark’s mother. When Mark’s mother passed away in 2022 it became necessary to sell up in order to settle her estate. With the money they inherited along with their stake in the big house, Mark and Stephenie looked locally for a “forever home” they could buy outright.
They had specific requirements. Stephenie has secondary progressive MS and so her mobility is limited. A single storey property would be ideal – a bungalow perhaps. They checked out a few modern “affordable” bungalows but they seemed so small.
They eventually found a detached bungalow which looked more like it. There was a catch, as there always is. The bungalow had limited fixtures and had been vacant for a year. A viewing was arranged and while the place was cold, empty and uninviting, Mark and Stephenie could see some potential. They put an offer in and it was accepted.
This blog catalogues the renovation our “forever home”. There is a lot to do and we don’t have an unlimited pot of cash with which to do it!
